untitled

here are some pix of my february '98 trip through the philippines and guam. i don't have many pix of the philippines because my camera was stolen on a jeepney. i did have a great time in guam though!

derek relaxing at his parents' place. his parents threw a bbq that night and there was much excellent food there!

derek at talafofo falls. an absolutely beautiful place.

this is inarajan. it is somewhat secluded but one of the prettiest places i've ever seen in my life. in the background is the pacific ocean.

these are latte (pronounced 'laet-tee') stones, thought to be the pillars for ancient chamoru houses. they have become the symbol for chamoru strength and pride throughout micronesia.

me overlooking agaña. i still have dreams of this breathtaking sight.

these are the remains of the spanish plaza. i felt the ghosts of history here. this plaza was nearly destroyed by the japanese occupation of the island during world war II. now, japanese tourists come in droves to see the handiwork of their grandfathers.

the funky looking busses are what the locals call "jeepney". they're leftover world war II jeeps that people buy, fix up (usually) and decorate outlandishly. i rode on the very back of a couple of them and that's how i prolly lost my cameras. they are still the best way to see manila and the local people.

this is religious processional in the village of yigo. their patron saint is our lady of lourdes. i was reminded of the power of faith.
THIS SPACE FOR RENT untill i can figure out what to put in here!
